This is not a full-on, fleshed out blog post, and for that I apologize. I’m working on writing about a few different things at the moment and none of them are quite ready yet. I have a lot on my mind and I’m coming to learn a lot of different things about myself that I want to briefly touch on. More detailed posts about these things will hopefully be coming soon, but for now, here’s some things I’m learning.
- Minimalism is a tool and not a goal. It does not look the same for everyone. There’s not a rule that says you can only have a certain number of things. Minimalism is a tool we can use to make better decisions about how we spend our money and what we allow to take up space in our lives. How we use that tool is up to us.
- It’s not healthy for me to follow a lot of health/fitness oriented social media accounts. I am prone to issues with disordered eating and it’s best for me to eat a balance of “healthy” and “unhealthy” foods. People who follow weird diets (raw/high carb/keto/etc) negatively affect my relationship with food and my body.
- Not buying makeup has made me want to seriously minimize my makeup collection and get it down to the things I use and love and nothing else. I’ve come to realize that I have a way that I like to look and it doesn’t serve me to have products that don’t fit into that. I used to like experimenting with my makeup but it’s not something I find joy in any more. I’ve also been wearing a lot less makeup. I think by the end of the year the number of products I have will be seriously diminished.
- Social media can seriously influence the way we think. I know everyone knows that, but it’s something I’ve really been dealing with lately. I’m inspired by a lot of people online and social media has definitely had positive effects on me. But sometimes I also find myself dreaming up or creating a life for myself based how I think I should be living because of the vegan/low impact/minimalist people I follow online. I’m working on creating a balance.
I know this is a short post and I really didn’t get into anything too deeply, I apologize. These are just things I’ve been thinking about and want to put out into the world.
